Well, I moved to college, so I thought my latency would be really amazing, and I would never lag again. Alas...my lag is worse then ever. It doesn't make sense and I spent 1 hour with my techy friend and he couldn't help. I have a ping of 32 or so all the time...my connection test yeilded good results...and my computer is pretty decent.

(oops meant to hit preview) anyways, can anyone help me? I can't game untill this stuff is fixed. I think the problem may be the firewall and all the shit my college had me install on my computer before connecting to the netowrk. Also, I have a theory that the college allows only a certain number of Mbps per student. Even tho my download speed and ping are very good, it says I have a link speed of 10 Mbps. PLEASE HELP MEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

I'm connected to the internet here through an ethernet cable, so I don't think that there is a router. They dont' have the dorms wireless, which doesn't make any sense. I think its a cable connection, not T1 or modem... When I took this test These were my results: 2005-08-29 14:32:11 EST: 1549 / 4717 Your download speed : 1586301 bps, or 1549 kbps. A 193.6 KB/sec transfer rate. Your upload speed is much faster than down.. have you tweaked? Your upload speed : 4800000 bps, or 4687 kbps.Um, my settings are standard straight from the factory, I didn't change much... Its an HP nc6220 laptop, plugged in through a docking station. I have a 2 Ghz processer and 37.2 GB of hard drive space. The school made me install a zone alarm firewall, symantic antivirus, microsoft antispyware, Ad-Aware SE Plus, and Norton Anti-Virus. Without this stuff it won't let me connect to the network. Also, (if this helps) I nobody can run limewire, kazaa, bit torrent, or nay other free peer to peer thingy. So everything seems normal, other than the 10Mbps link speed...I think. If you need more info to help me, ask me for more. ;D ;D THANK YOU CANADIANNNNN.

ok im guessing that ur dorm has a 10/10 meg connection. that would explain why ur downstream is slower and ur upstream is way high. If u do a test in the middle of the night, u should see some awsome speeds lol. Everyones downloading and surfing right now, which is saturating ur downstream , all in all no problem there, its latency that matters with online games. Reason why they dont allow ppl to use P2p is cause it saturates the connection waaaaay too much, you'd see very slow speeds. Your upload and download would be the same, VERY low. Ugh, all those programs for your poor laptop. Your comp resources are probably DRAINED! For one, ZA(zonealarm), is needed, i can see that, but whats with the TWO antivirus's!?!? First of all, Symantec Antivirus is the same as norton, give or take a few different things, and Norton IS BLOAT WARE!! Bloatware clogs up all your system resources, (if you press ctrl+alt+del youll see ur "CPU Usage" is really high. MS antispyware is good, but overrated, ever since ive installed it, its missed things that Ad-aware has caught. Pretty sad seeing how Ad-aware is a freeware company and is small, while microsoft is fucking huge lol. Ok a couple other things i need info on, there is No modem? So what your saying is that, you have the ethernet cable end hooked up to what looks like a phone jack and the other end is connected to your enet card. Right? If so, this gonna be harder to really solve your problem as i dont know how to help you get your line stats. When r u gonna be on? we can test some things then.

Alright, thanks a lot canadian. Well, my ethernet cable is connected to a jack through the wall, i dunno if its the phone jack, then it just runs to some port in my computer, not directly into any card (maybe its an internal card.) Right now, my CPU usage isn't amazingly high, when im not running many programs (just aim, firefox, and iTunes) it stays between 0-10%. I'll come on now to check if ur on, if not, i gotta run to dinner and do all this orientation shit. I'll pop on randomly today when i have the time. Tomorrow I got more free time, so I should be on in the afternoon...cant say exactly when, I'll leave you mail at the channel to try to get a hold of you.

Not yet, maybe after this.
Dude, my lag randomly went away for a 1v1...then came back.
AGHHH, could it be laggy from people uploading off my iTunes? (I close it when i play)
Worst comes to worst, some kid is bringing a router to his room in my unit soon, so i can just go wireless and things should fix up.

Duuuuuudes, i just figured something out........ I don't lag at all on 1v1, but when there are more people in a game, then the lag is unbearable. Maybe that has something to with it.

Access manager is useless if u have XP. XP has its own PPPoE connector, which is exactly wat access manager is just, re-branded with the sympatico name & logo -_-
Fool around with your network connections Start->Control Panel->Network Connections
Click create a new connection(should be top left hand side if you have XP) follow the prompts filling in the info. Once youve done that, try to play a game again. If it doesnt work, try a different method of connecting using the "New connection Wizard" (see above). GL
